Formal training is one of the key points in my program, it is sustainable and can be started with little financial impact. Together with diploma recognition it is crucial in our sport, as it ensures a standardized and comprehensive understanding of key elements across various areas. Here’s a breakdown of how formal training can benefit different roles within the sport:
Athletes
Athletes are often exposed to the press and may struggle with media interactions. They need guidance on:
- Handling embarrassing questions.
- Politely requesting journalists to return at a later time.
- Using social media effectively to attract personal sponsors
- …
Training sessions for athletes will be less formal, focusing more on the exchange of experiences and providing practical toolboxes that athletes can use in their daily sports life.
This measure will be discussed with the athletes commission and implemented right away.
Weapon Control
Weapon control is critical for safety in fencing. While a reactive tip can influence a match, outdated safety equipment can endanger lives.
- There is currently no standard for weapon controllers or minimum knowledge requirements.
- My ultimate goal is to establish a system similar to that of referees, with different levels of expertise.
This measure will be discussed with the SEMI commission and implemented soonest possible.
Referees
Referees must pass a series of exams to obtain their B license. However, as the world and rules evolve, continuous learning is necessary.
- Organize refresher sessions.
- Provide training on handling stressful situations during matches.
This measure will be discussed with the referee commission and implemented soonest possible.
Coaches
Coaches can benefit from integrating new technologies into their training routines.
- Some coaches already utilize modern technologies, but others do not.
- Create a program to demonstrate how modern technologies can enhance their daily coaching activities.
This measure will be discussed with the coaches commission and implemented soonest possible.
Organizers
One key problem in fencing is the lack of standardization in competition organization.
- Take advantage of the work done on rewriting procedures.
- Strengthen standard approaches to event organization.
This measure will be discussed with the competition commission and implemented soonest possible.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is a necessity to protect athletes from potential harm and unethical practices.
- Train safeguarding officers.
- Establish clear boundaries and a respectful approach to create a safer sport environment.
- Ensure a balanced approach that does not treat training and competition areas as dangerous playgrounds.
This measure will be discussed with the all commissions and implemented soonest possible.
Formal training with diploma recognition will elevate our sport by ensuring all participants have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively and safely.
